Greenkote is a very green process without any of the environmental issues surrounding other high performing surface protection processes such as zinc nickel.

What is Greenkote?

The application of Greenkote is the process of diffusing zinc into steel to form an anti-corrosive layer on a surface up to 30 microns thick, to produce an extremely robust coating.

How is it done?

The fasteners or parts are loaded into a retort (which is a pressurised cylinder). Then a known amount of Greenkote zinc powder is also placed in the retort. The retort is placed in a furnace at 400oC for 2 hours and slowly rotated.

The zinc powder evaporates into a gaseous form and is diffused into the surface of the parts, growing the coating from within the surface. When the retort starts to cool solid zinc is formed.

What are the benefits of using Greenkote?

  • Seizing prevention even on stainless steel (anti-galling).

Anochrome can offer various versions of thermal diffusion depending upon the application:

Greenkote A
Greenkote coating with a choice of specifying different minimum coating thicknesses – 15, 30 or 45 µm -In accordance with ENISO 13811 Class 15, Class 30 or Class 45
No top coat is offered on this version which make it ideally suited to over moulding with rubber or elastomers.

Greenkote P
As Greenkote A with an additional thin film clear Phosphate top coat.
The resultant surface will be ideal for over coating in a suitable paint or powder of the customers choice.
As a process it is suitable for coating assemblies , ie hinges and will allow free movement after coating.
NSS performance of 1500hrs to B117 after phosphate top coat.
Ideal for Chains, hooks, washers, bracket and components up to 10kg in weight
No torque modification is provided, additional top coats will be require should torque control be specified.

Greenkote S
As Greenkote A with a 5-8µm sacrificial zinc rich top coat
Top coat provide controlled lubricity of 0.15 +- 0.03
Corrosion protection of 3000hrs NSS to B117
Suitable for use on a wide range of parts including fasteners and as a replacement for galvanising or cadmium plating.

Greenkote B
As Greenkote A with a 5-8 µm black organic top coat.
Top coat provide controlled lubricity of 0.15 +- 0.03
Corrosion protection of 2000hrs NSS to B117
Suitable for use on a wide range of part including fasteners where a black top coat is specified.
